About The Position

The focus of the Academic Resource Specialist (ARS) position in the Accessibility and Disability Resource Center is to coordinate and help facilitate accommodation between students and faculty members. The academic resources specialist will help to orient students to the ADRC space and other university resources. The ARSs will host group coaching sessions and provide one-to-one meetings to address access issues or concerns. The ARS will help to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and maintain contact with students with disabilities needing additional support services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, AND: 1 year of related experience.
  • Equivalency/Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.
  • Knowledge of operating within a university culture and setting.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong process improvement skills/experience.
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative and respectful manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with complexity frequently.
  • Ability to complete projects on time.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Windows and Mac, including Word and Outlook. As well as perform general office skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 24 months of program development, training, and diversity programming experience
  • Master's degree
  • Experience in engagement with advocacy-based and grassroots organizations that serve Higher Education and communities with disabilities or an associated field

Responsibilities

  • Performs office duties and coordination in support of student programs or services.
  • Maintains files indicating student progress, letters of recommendations, transcripts, etc., as required.
  • Assists students and residents by providing information pertaining to lectures, exams, national board exams, financial aid, textbook procurement, etc.
  • Interfaces with Student Services in matters concerning grades, transcripts, and student status.
  • Participates in planning and implementation of orientation for new students or medical residents.
  • Coordinates schedules or rotations for students and/or medical residents within or outside the college or department.
  • Interfaces with /physicians and hospitals while representing the University in order to explain the program, gather information needed to facilitate scheduling, etc.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
