The Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) at the University of Michigan is seeking an Academic Program Specialist to support its mission of research, education, and service related to South Asia. This position is integral to the center, working closely with the Center Director and Cluster Manager to develop and implement programming activities that benefit the U-M community and beyond. The Academic Program Specialist will play a key role in the administration of the center, ensuring that all programming aligns with the center's goals and objectives. This full-time position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work as necessary. In this role, the Academic Program Specialist will assist the CSAS director with annual planning, including the development of the program calendar and coordination of South Asia-related meetings. The specialist will also support the completion of Title VI annual reports and other ad hoc requests, working closely with the International Institute (II) Evaluation Manager to compile data and draft reports. Financial stewardship is a critical aspect of this position, requiring adherence to U-M, LSA, and Department of Education regulations while monitoring expenditures and financial commitments. The Academic Program Specialist will coordinate various programming and event planning activities, including the CSAS Friday Lecture Series and annual conferences. This includes managing logistics such as speaker invitations, travel arrangements, venue selection, and tech support. The specialist will also be responsible for maintaining the CSAS programming calendar and ensuring timely follow-up after events, including processing payments and reimbursements. In addition to event planning, the specialist will coordinate academic and student services, including scholarship and fellowship competitions, admissions committee meetings, and support for student initiatives. This role requires a strong ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty, students, donors, and government officials, while demonstrating excellent organizational and time management skills.
