About The Position

UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Newborn Hospitalist to join our team of healthcare professionals and contribute to our overall mission of serving the needs of the diverse families in Central Massachusetts. Job duties include providing comprehensive medical care for infants in our 22-bed Continuing Care Nursery (CCN), embedded within our 49-bed Level 3 NICU at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA, and 28-bed postpartum unit and 12-bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA. Responsibilities also include attending high risk deliveries with a multi-disciplinary team, performing procedures such as intubation, central line placement, lumbar puncture and thoracentesis, and conducting inpatient antenatal consultations regarding issues of prematurity, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome and common chronic maternal medical conditions.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) and board certification/board eligibility in Pediatrics.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Strong commitment to serving underserved communities and equitable family centered care.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive medical care for infants in the Continuing Care Nursery and Level 3 NICU.
  • Attending high risk deliveries with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Performing procedures such as intubation, central line placement, lumbar puncture and thoracentesis.
  • Providing bedside teaching to medical trainees.
  • Developing and implementing educational curricula, lectures, and workshops.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities including medical education, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research.
  • Participating in departmental meetings, committees, and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, and quality.
  • Contributing to institutional policies, protocols, and guidelines related to neonatal care.
