About The Position

Academic Interventionist at York Middle School Qualifications/Requirements: Valid state licensure for teaching with middle-level certification Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the middle level or in specialized academic instruction Strong knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and implementation of Tier 2 academic interventions Knowledge of current research and evidence-based instructional strategies in literacy, mathematics, and student intervention practices Experience working with diverse student populations and supporting students with varied academic needs Ability to analyze and interpret student data to guide instructional decisions and intervention planning Strong collaboration, coaching, and communication skills to support teachers and instructional teams Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring records Proficiency in educational data systems and technology tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Demonstrated skills in leadership, human relations, and conflict resolution Excellent written and oral communication skills Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Reports to: Principal Job Goal: The Middle School Academic Interventionist supports the academic success of students who require additional targeted instruction through the Tier 2 level of the MTSS framework . The interventionist collaborates with teachers and school leadership to identify students who need additional support, implement research-based interventions, monitor student progress, and ensure students receive timely, targeted instruction to help them meet grade-level standards.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Identify students in need of Tier 2 academic interventions using multiple sources of data, including benchmark assessments, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations.
  • Provide targeted, research-based small group or individual interventions in core academic areas such as reading and mathematics.
  • Deliver structured intervention lessons aligned with grade-level standards and student needs.
  • Monitor student progress regularly using established progress monitoring tools and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of intervention plans, student participation, and progress monitoring data.
  • Support implementation of the MTSS process at the middle school level.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop and implement Tier 2 intervention plans.
  • Participate in data meetings and MTSS team meetings to review student progress and recommend instructional adjustments.
  • Assist in determining when students should enter/exit intervention supports based on progress data.
  • Partner with classroom teachers to analyze student data and identify instructional strategies to support struggling learners.
  • Provide guidance and resources related to evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Support teachers in implementing differentiated instruction and progress monitoring practices within the classroom.
  • Communicate with families regarding student participation in intervention programs and progress toward academic goals.
  • Provide families with strategies and resources to support learning at home.
  • Demonstrate strong team-building and collaboration skills
  • Accept delegated responsibilities willingly and demonstrate initiative in job performance
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds
