East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement. Our youth education and technology programs teach skills to allow students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource, the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve. Urban Scholars Community School is committed to providing an education of excellence that meets the needs of a diverse community of learners. The school's vision is to ensure that all students are actively engaged in the learning process to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be viable citizens of their community and society. The program has four main components: attendance improvement services, supportive school environment, strengthening family and community ties (with an emphasis on parent engagement), and mental health supports for students and their families needing additional support. This collaborative focus will help ensure that every child is consistently ready for the next grade level and set of challenges. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Teacher/Tutor is expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactory manner. The Teacher is responsible for implementing and monitoring the educational progress of each student.
