About The Position

The Office of Academic Records and Registrar is seeking an Academic Counselor to join their team. The Academic Counselor monitors eligibility for continued enrollment and provides counseling for students identified as having academic difficulties. (i.e., Academic Notice, Low GPA, and At-Risk for Disqualification). The Academic Counselor reviews all student requests for exceptions to educational policies and advises disqualified students on meeting the university's readmission requirements. The Academic Counselor advises students to identify as academically deficient on policies and procedures relating to their academic status and on requirements needed to remove or end a probationary status. This position assists students in understanding policies, rules governing exceptions, and documentation required for registration and readmission. This role must communicate to students all outcomes and possible alternative solutions. The Academic Counselor assesses personal and academic problems and refers students to the appropriate department for further support and counseling. The Academic Counselor grants permission for registration to students on academic notice or disqualification. The selected candidate will be expected to advise disqualified students on readmission policies and assist them in preparing Petitions for Readmission. This role reevaluates student academic status when changes are made to the academic record. The Academic Counselor provides information to academic advisors, faculty, deans, and university administrators regarding the educational status of individual students – including university policies on academic eligibility, readmission procedures, and exceptions to registration regulations. The Academic Counselor performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This position reports to the Assistant Registrar, Academic Counseling and Petition Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • 1 year
  • Counseling and/or academic advisement
