About The Position

The Academic Counselor at K-State Athletics is responsible for advising student-athletes, particularly from Women's Soccer and other Olympic Sports, on academic matters including course selection, NCAA eligibility, and career opportunities. This full-time position involves maintaining academic records, assessing academic needs, and developing academic plans to support student-athletes in achieving their educational goals while ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in higher education, academic advising, college student development, sport management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in higher education academic advising for culturally diverse student populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising for NCAA Division I student-athletes.
  • Experience working with at-risk student-athletes and knowledge of NCAA eligibility requirements.
  • Experience with international student admissions.

Responsibilities

  • Advise student-athletes on course and major selections, class attendance, academic priorities, grades, NCAA eligibility, and career opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain academic records and reports related to matriculation status and academic progress.
  • Ensure course schedules and grad plans align with student-athletes' educational goals and NCAA benchmarks.
  • Assess academic needs for student-athletes and assist in developing academic plans.
  • Work with at-risk student-athletes to develop self-advocacy skills and self-awareness.
  • Supervise tutorial services and maintain professionalism and confidentiality with student-athletes.
  • Serve as a point of contact with sport programs regarding academic performance and eligibility status.
  • Liaise between student-athletes, campus advisors, faculty, and academic departments.
  • Assist with the evaluation of prospective student-athletes' academic records.
  • Create and execute educational programming for new student-athletes.
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting activities and communicate available resources to student-athletes.
