Academic Coaches are responsible for providing personalized interactions to assist students in navigating the path to achieve their educational goals. Academic coaches help students “own their learning” by helping their peers with time management, using common software programs, study skills, stress management, test taking strategies, organizational skills, and other academic success skills. Academic coaches work with students in-person (drop in and by appointment) and online (by appointment only). The Learning Commons (LC) provides educational support and opportunities to all UAA students. The LC offers services to promote student success including: subject-specific tutoring, writing support, communication and presentation coaching, the Learning Assistant program, open study space, and more. To thrive in this role, candidates should be organized, patient, caring and understanding. Academic Coaches must be good at managing their time, staying on top of their coursework and other responsibilities, willing to learn and able to take the lead on projects like creating tips sheets, maintaining and organizing useful documents and handouts, or leading workshops on academic skills. Academic Coaches must be comfortable working with all types of students and must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week throughout Spring and Fall semesters. Shifts are generally in-person at the UAA Consortium Library Sunday through Friday between 10am to 6pm. An individual shift is typically at least 2 hours long. ACP Hours vary during summer semester and school breaks. Academic Coaches are not expected to work during finals week. Hours are subject to change.
