About The Position

The Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking an outstanding mid-career academic clinical physician to join its robust and growing breast cancer oncology program. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills in breast medical oncology, be comfortable managing breast cancer from early to late stages, and have general oncology knowledge with an interest in clinical research in breast cancer. Research duties may be supported by protected research time. The role requires collaboration with a large team of clinicians, administrators, and staff across multiple care sites in a multidisciplinary format. Candidates may also be considered for the Clinical Program Lead for Breast Medical Oncology role, which includes protected time, but this is not a mandatory aspect of the position. High priority will be given to candidates with an interest in clinical administration and/or quality measures.

Requirements

  • Licensed MD or DO from accredited Institution in U.S., or equivalent, if a non-U.S. graduate, must complete ECFMG certification & be qualified to obtain a temporary CO Medical license.
  • Eligible to be credentialed by the institutional processes established for oversight for advanced professional medical practice.
  • Board certified in Oncology.
  • For Associate Professor: 5-12 years of experience and achievement in clinical activity, research, and education.
  • For Professor: 12+ years of experience and achievement in clinical activity, research, and education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Experience specifically in breast oncology in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • See patients diagnosed with or at risk for breast cancer in our Anschutz clinic location (approximately 2.5-3 days/week).
  • Participate in the breast cancer multidisciplinary clinic 1-2 sessions/week.
  • Serve in the inpatient rotation for coverage of the medical oncology consult and/or inpatient service.
  • Enroll patients to available clinical trials and lead clinical trials (pharma, cooperative group, and/or investigator lead) across the consortium.
  • Participate in national clinical breast research through the NCTN mechanism.
  • Moderate tumor board(s) and clinical programmatic conferences, with the goal of ensuring adherence to evidenced based care, multidisciplinary clinical pathways, and reduce care variation (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Assist with the monitoring of performance metrics of the clinical program, including performing annual reviews and periodic performance reviews required for the med onc breast program (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Assist with Mid-Career reviews for faculty of the Breast Medical Oncology program, as well as APP and clinical faculty promotions (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Work in partnership with the Medical Oncology Co-Director and the Clinical Practice Manager of the Diane O’Connor Thompson Breast Cancer to enhance operational efficiency including clinic personnel issues where appropriate (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Participate in the integration of the academic mission into all sites of care and specific performance improvement projects (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Oversee the Breast Joint Operations Committee and participate in the organization of the annual meeting(s) and determination of annual JOC clinical goals and QI projects (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Be available to the clinical nurse navigator and nursing staff for the specific disease program for any specific new patient intake questions and coordination (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Be available to the Care Clinic and Inpatient Consult service for assistance with de novo patient presentations undergoing workup with a probable breast cancer diagnosis and work with the clinical staff and providers to ensure timeline import of these patients into their longitudinal clinical care (if Clinical Program Lead).
  • Participate in Cancer Center Operations Council for improvement of Clinical Quality, Patient Safety, Efficiency, and overall Satisfaction of the Cancer Center, as well as attendance at local and regional cancer operations and leadership meetings when requested (if Clinical Program Lead).
