About The Position

The Academic ASAP Student Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting students at LaGuardia Community College, which is part of the City University of New York (CUNY). Founded in 1971, LaGuardia serves a diverse student body of over 30,000 individuals, many of whom are first-generation college students and ethnic minorities. The ASAP program is designed to help students overcome financial, academic, and personal obstacles to achieve their educational goals. As an ASAP Advisor, you will be part of an integrated team that provides comprehensive academic and career support to students as they navigate their college experience. In this position, you will deliver personalized advisement to a designated group of students, guiding them through their degree completion journey. This includes conducting workshops on various topics such as financial aid, transfer processes, and wellness initiatives. You will also be responsible for tracking student progress, maintaining accurate records, and conducting outreach to faculty and staff to ensure student success. Your role will involve organizing recruitment events and special programs that foster engagement among students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the challenges faced by students from diverse urban backgrounds and will be skilled in providing guidance and support. You will need to demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. A commitment to equitable and inclusive advisement practices is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a centralized program structure. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is also required, as the role may involve outreach and support during these times.
