About The Position

Under general supervision the purpose of the job is to provide academic advisement for prospective, current, and former students within a specified undergraduate academic department or equivalent unit of a college. Employees in this job classification are responsible for assessing academic levels, attending to student academic inquiries, assisting in the resolution of individual academic problems, and advising on academic program changes. Advises and assists students in the development of academic plans and class schedules, analyzes applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry and exit from the university. Develops and maintains appropriate files and records. Performs related work as directed. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three years of experience in student services.
  • Must be a Florida resident.
  • Strong academic advising knowledge.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Interpersonal relationship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic consulting services to students, prospective students, and former students, including complex analysis and integration.
  • Answers student inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources.
  • Receives and reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to a specific college or program including unofficial evaluation of transfer credits and applicability of academic credit to program requirements.
  • Reviews student files to ensure deadlines are met for completing various graduation requirements such as coursework requirements, and other specific program requirements.
  • Guides students thru the educational planning process. Provides an educational plan for students enrolled in SLS courses, and other FTIC and returning students. Maintains the educational plan thru mainframe and WEB interfaces.
  • Coordinates orientation materials and multimedia presentations including updates and revisions. Conducts/facilitates Group Orientation/Advisement sessions for FTIC students.
  • Responds to email inquiries from students about advisement, registration, graduation, transfer information, and other procedures at BCC. Also responds to email inquiries from Staff, Faculty, and Administrators.
  • Maintains electronic calendar to facilitate the scheduling of automated appointments from the student advisement appointment system, and meetings, workshops, and committees without creating time conflicts.
  • Provides "Express/Fast Track" advisement for students without appointments, who need quick resolutions for existing academic problems.
  • Prepares form letters, individual letters, and information packets in support of group and/or individual recruitment efforts; attends and participates in individual and group orientation and other information dissemination sessions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
