About The Position

Serve as Academic Advisor for Football and one additional sport, reporting to the Director of Football Academics and Senior Associate AD/ Academics. Primary purpose is to support the Director and perform the duties of an academic advisor, provide academic advising, planning and other support for student-athletes in other areas of course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements and career goals. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student-athlete population and communicate effectively with students, professors, peers and parents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and handle multiple tasks quickly and efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with academics in college athletics environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as academic advisor. to student-athletes of assigned sports. Advise students on academic performance, course/major selection, developing a graduation plan, time management, goal setting, career planning, learning and study strategies, test taking, note taking and other skills for academic success
  • Maintain student-athlete eligibility by University of South Carolina, SEC and NCAA standards, rules and regulations.
  • Maintain regular verbal communication and written status reports to coaches regarding academic issues and concerns.
  • Cultivate and maintain sustainable working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and campus constituents.
  • Develop and evaluate team academic success plans each semester.
  • Generate appropriate academic reports and summaries as required each semester.
  • Meet with recruits in assigned sports to provide n overview of available academic services and be able to communicate our staff philosophy and mission for student-athlete success.
  • Participate on one Dodie Academic committee within the office. Other duties and special projects as assignedby the Director of Academics and the Senior Associate AD / Academics.
