About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Academic Advisor provides academic advising to assigned students and high-level support to Student Services within the college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Professional experience in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and familiarity with the college's degree programs/requirements.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to work effectively on a variety of concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effecting working relationships with faculty, staff, students and general public.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, decision-making and team-building skills.
  • Sufficient technical ability to master the software required to perform job duties at a high level.

Nice To Haves

  • Work toward a master's degree.
  • Proficiency with higher education administrative software (Banner or similar) and MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience making presentations to groups and developing brochures and other written materials for distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Advises assigned students.
  • Evaluates retention data.
  • Monitors progress toward degree completion.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for inquiries and referrals and escalates inquiries/problems to the appropriate person as needed.
  • Conducts research and prepares statistical reports as assigned.
  • Coordinates activities for graduation, induction, recruitment and retention, as assigned.
  • Manages Student Services forms and processes and communicates with faculty about changes.
