The Academic Advisor at DePaul University plays a crucial role in delivering academic advising services to both new and continuing students within the College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM). Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Advising, the advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive support to students, ensuring they navigate their academic journey successfully. This position requires a generalist knowledge of all CDM programs, as the advisor will be assigned a caseload of students from similar program areas, allowing for closer engagement and tailored support. In this role, the Academic Advisor will support faculty advising and deliver a range of academic advising and administrative services. Key responsibilities include conducting academic curriculum reviews, assisting with course sequence planning, and providing guidance to students on academic progress assessments. The advisor will also play a vital role in supporting retention efforts for special student populations, including those engaged in online learning. Additionally, the advisor will help students utilize DePaul and CDM's online academic management tools, review transcripts from DePaul and transfer institutions, and provide referrals to various university resources. The advisor will also assist with new and existing programs and services within the CDM Academic Success Center, which includes facilitating new student orientations, managing academic probation processes, and overseeing degree conferral procedures. Participation in special events organized by the College and other university offices is also expected, including academic advising weeks, career workshops, commencement ceremonies, and family weekends. The advisor will engage in professional development activities, technology training, and serve on various college and university committees, contributing to the overall mission of the department. The position requires a commitment to continual process improvement and a strong adherence to professional standards of conduct, including ethics and confidentiality. The advisor must also demonstrate initiative, creativity, and teamwork, while possessing superior interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of academic advising theory and practice, as well as familiarity with PeopleSoft/Oracle Cloud and various PC applications, is essential for success in this role.
