About The Position

The College of Fine Arts is searching for a full-time, 12-month Academic Advisor whose primary role is working with Fine Arts majors. Through a variety of forums including group and individual advising sessions, the Academic Advisor works with prospective, incoming and continuing students in understanding their degree requirements, assisting in goal clarification and collaboration, developing academic plans each semester and interpreting university policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of the Fine Arts majors and the complex progression through these degree programs is essential for this position. Fine Arts advisors use their experience in advising to assist students' development within complicated and unique majors that require a balance of both practical and theoretical application. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining accurate, detailed and timely student records; evaluating students' degree progress; assisting students with processing forms; interpreting and correcting degree audit reports; reviewing and articulating transfer coursework; serving as an advising liaison to faculty and leadership in an assigned Fine Arts department; referring students to appropriate campus resources; participating in both on-campus and off-campus retention and recruitment activities, including New Student Orientations, that require advisors to make regular presentations to groups of students and parents. Occasional evenings and weekends are required. Other duties will be assigned as deemed necessary by CFA leadership and direct supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (Masters preferred).
  • At least 1 year of advising or comparable work experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of student development and learning theory.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with computerized student information systems, preferably Oracle/PeopleSoft and Salesforce.
