The academic advisor is responsible for providing academic advising to undergraduate students in individual and group advising settings in the College of Education. The academic advisor provides expertise in degree requirements, proactive advising (outreach and student interaction) and may be involved in recruitment events; retention, progression, and completion (RPC) outreach and initiatives; new student orientation and student programming, and other assigned special projects geared to impact student success. The academic advisor must have/develop knowledge of general core requirements for each College of Education major as well as policies and procedures of the university and college. The academic advisor must have knowledge of admissions, registration systems and financial aid processes to assist students. Skills also include the utilization of professional judgment in assisting students with choosing an area of study and determining the appropriate courses for the degree. Having the ability to develop and deliver presentations as well as articulate and convey policies and procedures are essential functions.
