There are still lots of open positions. Let's find the one that's right for you.
The Academic Advisor, Student Transitions Programs position exists in order to dually provide academic advising, major/career planning for assigned caseloads in the Honors College (HC), and the coordination of innovative high-impact programming/events for second-year and upper-class students. Second-year programs aim to help HC students get involved in the HC and UNLV community, prepare for desired career or graduate/professional school programs, identify experiential learning and personal growth opportunities, overcome the proverbial sophomore slump, and leverage institutional resources and networks for post-graduation success. Knowledge of technologies and platforms (i.e., MyUNLV, Workday, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, WebCampus-Canvas, and all social media platforms) is required to advise, deliver presentations, and build rapport with the HC student body. This position will also support all Top Tier and academic advising initiatives and play a significant role in implementing and executing the college's RPC (retention, progression, and completion) programs, especially related to collaborating with other advising centers across campus. The Academic Advisor, Student Transitions Programs will also oversee promotion, recap, and archive duties for new and traditional HC community programs/events (e.g., Admitted Rebel Days, Rebels R.I.S.E., Second-Year Senate, University Honors Pins Recognition, College of Hospitality International Honors Track, Study Abroad, HC WebCampus-Canvas Hub, messaging campaigns, social media, etc.) that will require occasional work on nights and weekends. Second-year and upper-class student programs/events must be designed thoughtfully and model national best practices that support retention efforts from an HC experience satisfaction, engagement, and experiential learning standpoint. Attention to detail and understanding the needs of second-year students and peer leaders are paramount because strategic initiatives and programs must connect students with the Honors College faculty, staff, community, and campus partners to make sure extraordinary educational experiences are cultivated and dreams/goals are realized upon completing an HC academic program. The Academic Advisor, Student Transitions Programs will work closely with the Director of Advising and Recruitment and the Dean for quality assurance. Successfully executing this position's duties will help increase the odds of achieving the HC's goals/objectives for student satisfaction, retention, persistence, and graduation rates. The individual hired for this position will build meaningful relationships with HC students by cohort and track, analyze, and report findings to keep a pulse on these special student populations to inform decisions aimed at elevating the HC student experience.
