About The Position

The Academic Advisor position at Western Kentucky University (WKU) involves serving as the primary advising contact for undergraduate and graduate students in the Interdisciplinary Studies and Organizational Leadership programs. The role focuses on supporting student success through in-person advising sessions, collaboration with various departments, and training faculty on effective advising practices. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively use technology, including academic advising software and database systems.
• Availability for limited travel, evening, and weekend work.
• Ability to work independently and manage a large advising load in a fast-paced office environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct student advising primarily through regular and consistent in-person and face-to-face advising sessions.
• Work closely with Advising and Career Development, the Graduate School, and Student Military Services to support student success.
• Advise and train faculty for effective student advising and best practices.
• Collaborate with program area faculty and engage in effective marketing and recruitment initiatives.
• Attend program and department meetings as needed.
