About The Position
The Academic Advisor for Revenue Sports at the University of California, Berkeley, plays a crucial role in supporting student athletes within the Athletic Study Center (ASC). This position is designed for individuals who are not only skilled in academic advising but also possess strong administrative coordination abilities. The advisor will work closely with the Assistant Director of Academic Advising to ensure that consistent and effective advising services are provided across all athletic teams. This role involves advising a complex caseload of student athletes, particularly those in high-profile sports such as football and basketball, on academic program policies and issues. The advisor will monitor academic progress, assist students in making informed educational choices, and troubleshoot any issues that arise with faculty, coaches, or other campus constituents. In addition to direct advising, the Academic Advisor will analyze departmental and college academic policies, recommend changes, and help identify barriers to academic success for students. This includes recognizing non-academic issues that may affect students and making appropriate referrals for counseling or assistance. The advisor will also coordinate advising processes and communications for the entire advising team, maintain academic progress records, and provide status reports to coaches. Furthermore, the advisor will assist in the recruitment and admissions of new student athletes, ensuring they understand athletic eligibility requirements and course articulation with other institutions.
