About The Position

The Learning Institute and Opportunities for New Students (LIONS Program) Assistant Director provides supervision, academic support, and college transitional programming to a diverse group of incoming freshmen with guidance from the program director. The Assistance Director position runs the five-week summer session from the end of June through July. The live-in position (within a UAPB residence hall) is designed to provide LIONS Scholars continuous academic support, self-advocacy skills, and introduction to University retention programs. LIONS Scholars are incoming first time college students admitted to UAPB. The Assistant Director continues the retention services to new and previous LIONs program participants and other first students through the academic year. LIONS Scholars start their first-year at UAPB the summer prior to fall and enroll in six University credits.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and four years of experience working in academic program, student success, or related, retention-focused programs
  • Knowledge of current issues and best practices in student success and retention is key to this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or other related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively to support students of color and other historically marginalized student populations preferred.
