About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I in Boca Raton, FL. This position involves providing academic advising to all first and second-year students, including transfer students at FAU under 45 earned credit hours and all undeclared students regardless of hours earned. The advisor will serve as a liaison to an assigned college or student support unit on campus, clear undergraduate registration holds, and respond to email inquiries and phone messages. Additionally, the advisor will assist with campus events, such as the Admission's Office open houses, University Expos, and other evening and weekend duties requiring an UAS advising presence. In support of FTIC and second-year students, this position will require some evening and virtual hours on a rotating basis. The advisor will assist students with developing academic and career action plans, work with and support undecided students, students in academic difficulty, and students transitioning into their major of choice. The advisor may also teach the SLS freshman transition courses.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Up to one year of appropriate experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs/Development, Counselor Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in advising, counseling, orientation, student services or related experience at a university preferred. Graduate internships can be applied toward the one-year experience.
  • Proficiency in working with computer programs specifically, Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and Excel is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Working knowledge of the Appreciative Advising model.

  • May teach the SLS freshman transition courses.
