About The Position

The University of Michigan - Flint is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor to support its growing student population within the College of Innovation and Technology. This role focuses on enhancing student retention and degree completion by providing comprehensive academic advising, managing a designated caseload of students, and facilitating their transition and progress through the university. The advisor will collaborate with various university resources and maintain regular contact with students to address any academic challenges they may face.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two or more years of experience as an academic advisor or in a similar student-facing role, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google applications, web editing, and Zoom.
  • Comfortable presenting complex information in face-to-face and online formats.

  • Familiarity with retention strategies and academic support services.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment for students to develop ownership of their educational progress.
  • Advise students on course selection, graduation requirements, and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Collaborate with students to create and update course schedules and degree-completion plans.
  • Assess individual student needs and refer them to appropriate university resources.
  • Initiate communication with newly admitted and continuing students for academic advising.
  • Document all advising appointments in the university advising system.
  • Conduct new student orientation sessions.
  • Collaborate with university partners to enhance the college experience for students.
  • Represent the College of Innovation and Technology on campus committees.
