About The Position

The College of Arts & Sciences Advisement Office seeks a dedicated Academic Advisor to support our student population. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in guiding students along their academic journey and helping them achieve their goals. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive academic advisement and developing graduation plans with students. You will monitor student progress, identify at-risk students, and proactively support them through their degree pursuit. You will also serve as a mentor, providing interpersonal counseling on academic and career matters. In addition to advising, you will develop services and programs to foster student success. You will look for opportunities to empower students and help them elevate their abilities. You will work to resolve any administrative issues students face and refer them to additional campus support services as needed. This is an excellent chance to directly impact the lives of our students. As an Academic Advisor, you will engage with students, understand their needs, and help them develop their full potential. Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic academic advisement process in higher education.
  • Knowledge of computers and various software packages.
  • Ability to become proficient in the most commonly used ETSU advising tools, including but not limited to Banner, GoldLink, Degree Works, and EAB Navigate.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of course catalog, general education/Compass Core, and specific program requirements.
  • Ability to work with students with a wide variety of abilities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to speak publicly.
  • Ability to think objectively and solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One (1) year of experience working with students in higher education.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree and two (2) years of experience working with students in a higher education setting as a full-time employee or graduate assistant experience.
  • Experience in mentorship, career, and academic counseling.
