About The Position
The Academic Advisor and Student Support Specialist position at the University of Maine is designed to provide comprehensive support to undergraduate students, particularly those in the Explorations program who enter the university as undeclared. This role emphasizes a holistic and developmental approach to advising, guiding students through their initial semesters and helping them navigate the complexities of college life. The Academic Advisor and Student Support Specialist will serve as the primary contact for students flagged through the university's tracking system, currently utilizing EAB Navigate, ensuring that these students receive the necessary support and resources to succeed academically and personally. In addition to advising, the position may involve teaching various first-year seminars and academic recovery courses throughout the academic year. The Academic Advisor and Student Support Specialist will also play a crucial role in recruitment and retention initiatives, contributing to the overall success of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). This position is integral to fostering a supportive academic environment and enhancing the student experience at UMaine.
