About The Position

Requirements

• Master's Degree in an advising academic discipline, Counseling, Communication, College Student Personnel, or Student Affairs in Higher Education.
• 1 year of direct advising experience or experience in another college functional area with direct student contact.
• Knowledge of degree programs offered at BGSU and university academic policies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft/CSS, and other relevant technologies.
• Effective written and oral communication skills and strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of developmental advising strategies and student development theories.
• Experience working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Advise current and prospective students on course planning, major selection, degree requirements, and career planning.
• Utilize technology and data to support academic advising duties and communication with students.
• Review student academic progress and advise on actions regarding academic and career goals.
• Refer students to appropriate support offices and organizations as needed.
• Conduct group advising sessions and assist in planning New Student Orientation and other advising activities.
• Develop programming efforts and intervention strategies for at-risk students.
• Maintain and manage advising caseload and student records in compliance with regulations.
• Represent the college on university-wide committees and participate in professional development.
