Position Purpose: Supports employees and managers throughout the leave process, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Absence Management Specialist position is fully remote. Candidates will be considered nationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Leave Management, Disability Studies, Benefits, or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • 1+ years of human resources experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources, leave management, disability programs, or benefits administration required.
  • Basic knowledge of absence management related concepts and practices, including FMLA and ADAAA compliance.
  • Experience in HRIS systems, particularly related to HRMS, disability and payroll systems preferred.
  • Exposure to Workday preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with disability vendors to administer and manage leave programs, including sick leave, vacation, disability, and FMLA.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and company-specific regulations such as FMLA, ADA, and other labor laws.
  • Stay current on legislative updates and apply them effectively.
  • Review, approve, and process leave requests while maintaining accurate records in HR systems.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers, providing clear guidance on leave policies, procedures, and case status updates.
  • Interpret and explain state laws, federal guidelines, and company policies in both verbal and written formats to ensure clarity and compliance.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, and Benefits teams to facilitate smooth transitions for employees returning from leave.
  • Advise employees and management on leave entitlements and best practices, acting as a trusted resource for policy interpretation.
  • Identify and address errors or misguidance from case managers, escalating concerns to vendors for resolution.
  • Analyze reports, system data, and company policies to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Protect sensitive employee information in compliance with privacy and regulatory standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
