Job Summary - Carry out cargo handling duties, general cleaning, maintenance, and other manual labor as assigned/directed. - Prepare and Paint all interior and exterior surfaces and equipment as directed by supervisor. - Assist Mates with carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections on marine department related equipment. - Carry out maintenance and inspections on equipment related to Firefighting, Lifesaving, Safety, and Watertight integrity. Job Description REPORTING: Reports to the Mate on tour. SUPERVISION: None Pre-Requisite/ Qualification: Valid unlimited Able Seafarer credential STCW 95 II/5 where applicable Basic computer skills Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates for area of operation. Willingness to work as a team to perform safe and efficient rig operational goals. Basic mechanical skills, safety awareness, and a willingness to work in tough environments. Work under supervision from the Marine Department and must coordinate operational needs with Marine Team. Full participation in emergency drills and respond to emergency situations as per assigned duties on the station bill. Cleans varies rig areas and keeps the decks organized to prevent trip hazards. Communicate with team members to ensure the job is properly discussed and that everyone understands their individual roles. Rustproofing welded metal surfaces to prevent corrosion. Surface preparation and painting, including the use of air operated and electrical chipping and grinding equipment. Operational Discipline Requirements: Disciplined application and participation in the company risk management process. This is inclusive of: Understanding and perform the roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre-job meeting. Understanding and identifying the hazards associated with the task. Understanding and effectively implementing the control measures required to mitigate identified hazards. Execute all tasks and task steps in a disciplined manner, following the sequence detailed in the relevant procedures. Recognize at risk behavior or conditions during tasks and call ‘Time out for Safety’ when unsure, or when the job does not go as planned. Participate in After Action Reviews to feedback lessons learned from performing the task. DUTIES: The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements. When considering assignment of duties for the Able Bodied Seaman, the Supervisor and the Able Bodied Seaman will apply the rules of task planning to determine if the assigned role is appropriate. This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed. General Duties: Operations/Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and keeping lifesaving, firefighting, pollution prevention and other safety systems in operational condition. Operate and maintain survival craft, rescue boats and their launching appliances. Operate and maintain watertight doors, hatches and dampers. Assist with helicopter operations by unloading and refueling helicopters or standing by on the fire team. Stand lookout or helmsman watch as required while vessel is underway. Assist with transferring products to / from supply vessels as needed. Manually lift, carry, and move equipment, tools, and materials as required. Ensure to use correct body positioning and safe lifting procedures. Remove waste, debris, and accumulated trash from decks, stairs, compartments and other areas of the rig and dispose of in accordance to company requirements. Sweep and wash decks, bulkheads, and structures using brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and high-pressure water hoses. Clean up spills and accumulated waste and take all necessary actions to prevent tripping and slipping hazards. Keep hand tools in good condition, properly maintained, and stored when not in use. Keep lines, hoses, slings, etcetera coiled and other materials properly stored. Assist in the care and maintenance of the rig’s machinery and equipment using proper tools and following company/manufacturers safety rules and procedures. Operate air hoists, hydraulic hoists, chain hoists, and other cargo handling gear to pick up and move heavy equipment Assist in assembling, dismantling, and maintaining of deck machinery, pumps, and other mechanical equipment. Assist in slipping and cutting of wire lines, inspection and maintenance of wire and fiber lines, slings, and other lifting equipment. Assist in erecting scaffolding and staging as required. Prepare and clean deck surfaces, superstructures, bulkheads, et cetera prior to priming and painting. Paint prepared surfaces as directed, i.e. apply coats of primer, paint, and varnish with rollers and spray guns in accordance with company and painting specifications. Assist as directed during rig moves and anchor handling operations. Assist in workboat mooring activities. Personnel: Promote and maintain good working relationships with other departments, third-party personnel and Customer representatives. Mentor, coach, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their current and next job level. Provide leadership and motivation to the marine crews. Apply continuous improvement process. Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process. Apply appropriate accountability regarding recognition; recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
