We’re committed to being your Company of Choice® JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) is designated by the Company as a vessel crew member and shall be responsible for representing, enforcing, and preserving Company interests, policies and procedures to other crew, clients, sub-contractors, and duly authorized authorities. The duties of the Able Bodied Seaman (AB) include but are not limited to the full implementation of the Company Safety Management System (SMS), Code of Conduct, Company Policies, and Company Mission Statement. And to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the vessel including serving as a Rating Forming Part of a Navigation Watch (RFPNW), operating deck equipment and machinery, participation in mooring and anchoring operations, participating in cargo and rigging operations, performing preventative and routine maintenance, conducting safety and security inspections, and monitor the safety of the crew and persons in addition to crew, protection of the environment, protection of the cargo or property of the charterer, and other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Master, Chief Mate and/or Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch (OICNW) or that the AB recognizes as essential to his/her responsibility. JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY 1. The Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) is responsible for following the safety and environmental protection policies of the Company; motivating other crew in the observation of those policies; obeying appropriate orders and instructions from vessel officers; and ensuring that specified requirements of the SMS, Code of Conduct, and Company policies are observed. 2. To ensure the safe operation of each ship and to provide a link between the Company and those on board, the Company has designated a person or persons ashore having direct access to the highest level of management. The AB (and all crew members) has been provided contact information for the DPA and alternate DPA. The AB has the responsibility to monitor the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation of their ship and to ensure that adequate resources and shore-based support are applied, as required. Any deficiencies must be immediately reported to the Master and Company DPA. 3. As directed by the Master, the AB has the authority under his/her credential to perform responsibilities aboard their vessel or when otherwise engaged in the business of the Company in the capacity of an AB in a manner consistent with this job description. 4. As directed by the Master, the AB serves as a RFPNW and is responsible for navigation, safety, and security duties as assigned by the OICNW. The AB performs preventative and routine maintenance and cleaning of the vessel, operates deck equipment and machinery, serves as a rigger and participates in mooring and anchoring operations of the vessel at the direction of the Master, Chief Mate, and/or OICNW and in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations of the vessel’s flag state, coastal state, and the Company SMS in a manner consistent with maintaining the safety of the crew and the protection of the environment. 5. The AB is responsible for maintaining flag state and Company required credentials appropriate for their vessel, route, and industrial mission. 6. The AB escorts, observes, and monitors the safety of visitors to the vessel including vendors, sub-contractors, and other third parties as directed by the Master, Chief Mate, and or OICNW in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Company.
