About The Position

The Adult Education Local Instructor/Coordinator is responsible for the support of the Adult Education Program at the assigned location. This position is funded through State grant monies and is subject to the availability of funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the various subject areas of the program.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, tutors, groups, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have the ability to instruct and work with individuals with a wide range of learning styles.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to encourage students to persist until they meet their goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in adult education desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an instructor by performing activities such as holding pre-enrollment informational sessions, developing study plans with students, providing quality instruction, assisting students in enrolling in College Success and Orientation, and coordinating professional development activities.
  • Use the adult education database to evaluate programs and make recommendations for program changes, professional development activities, and collaborations including AO-K.
  • Consult with the HCC Adult Education Program Director for questions related to the program.
  • Coordinate marketing activities for the ABE/GED program, AO-K program, and transitional workshops, and serve as a local point of contact.
  • Locate a facility to be used for classes.
  • Keep accurate records and supply necessary information to the HCC Adult Education Program Director.
  • Be a member of the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA).
  • Attend Adult Education Staff Development on the state and local level.
  • Help develop and promote literacy at the local level.
  • Conduct staff training sessions as needed for local tutors.
