About The Position

The ABC News Washington Bureau is dedicated to delivering comprehensive reporting and analysis of global affairs and national events, with a particular emphasis on politics across all ABC News programs and platforms. This internship encompasses both newsgathering and production, offering valuable insights into various teams, including: Global Affairs, Pennsylvania Ave Assignment Desk/Digital, and Justice/ABC News Live. Interns will actively contribute to and support these teams, gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic intersection of news coverage and production! The approximate dates of this internship are January 2026 through early June 2026.

Requirements

  • Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television production, news and news media production or reporting; and/or television news script writing.
  • Experience with using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with social media news outlets.
  • Experience with multi-tasking in a constantly evolving work environment, effectively balancing and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments, and researching and/or using a range of tools to acquire information and present findings.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience generating story ideas and pitches.
  • Experience with video editing using Avid.
  • Experience with filming B-roll and/or 'man-on-the-street' interviews.
  • Familiarity with CMS (content management systems).
  • Knowledge and interest/curiosity in politics, political studies, journalism, and current events supported by academic coursework and/or internship involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the daily editorial research, reporting and writing for all platforms with special emphasis on digital.
  • Supervising social content; locating and researching elements for broadcast pieces, placing reporting calls, and assisting our producers in the field at events/stakeouts.
  • Assisting with logging tape, and attending press conferences and hearings.
  • Helping with spot production - assisting in the field locally and in the edit room.
  • Opportunities exist for writing articles, and producing video shorts for dotcom/digital.

  • The pay rate for this role in Washington D.C. is $22.50 per hour.
