About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) has an internship opportunity with the ABC Commission for the Summer of 2026. The ABC Commission refers to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, which is a division of DPS that regulates alcohol sales, including permitting, distribution, and enforcing laws. This internship will expose students to various aspects of administrative law enforcement including working with law enforcement, legal office duties, and courtroom procedures. Specific responsibilities include legal office support work, such as agenda meeting preparation, legal research, possible public interaction, drafting legal documents under supervision, assisting with case preparation, reviewing files, attending court proceedings, organizing evidence. The intern may be asked to complete specific projects such as scanning and other projects as needed. Law school students are preferred, but what matters most is that candidates have an interest in working in a legal environment. This could be a wonderful opportunity to expose individuals to a legal environment. In addition, the ideal candidate will have strong time management skills, communication skills, Microsoft Word and Excel skills, record management skills, and experience working in a confidential environment. This internship is expected to start on May 18, 2026, and continue through July 24, 2026. The work schedule is part-time (up to 30 hours per week), Monday -Friday. The rate of pay is $18.00 per hour. We value our employees and are committed to providing flexibility in work schedules. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program. Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a recent college graduate. NOTE: "Recent" graduates are those who have graduated within the last 6 months.
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (or a recent graduate) in Criminal Justice or Legal field; however, any major will be considered if applicants are interested in exploring this internship.
  • A college transcript is required to determine eligibility. Please attach your unofficial college transcript(s). The transcript must include your name, courses/major, and the name of the college/university.
  • Interns must submit to a background check and fingerprinting or consent to agency onboarding requirements.
