About The Position

As an Abatement Technician at Paulson Fire and Flood, you will help restore homes and businesses by safely completing demolition and small scale abatement work, then supporting drying and rebuild steps as needed. You will also be assigned to abatement jobs involving hazards such as asbestos, lead, or silica, following company safety procedures and required training. Requirements

  • Valid BC or Alberta driver’s license with Class 5 preferred
  • Able to pass a criminal background check to company approval
  • Willing and able to complete abatement tasks involving asbestos, lead, and silica safely, including following all PPE and work procedures and completing required training
  • Must complete or already hold BC Asbestos Certificate Level 1 and Level 2
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to assist and learn different tasks related to the restoration process
  • Comfortable working alone and in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and takes pride in doing the job properly
  • Ability to lift and move equipment safely including industrial fans around 30 to 40 pounds and wheeled dehumidifiers around 130 to 140 pounds
  • Ability to lift heavier items up to 80 pounds from time to time, using safe lifting practices and team lifts when required
  • Willingness to participate in the emergency on call rotation

Nice To Haves

  • Level 3 Asbestos Certificate is considered a strong asset.
  • Previous restoration experience is an asset
  • Carpentry or drywall experience or training is an asset
  • Practical knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures is an asset
  • WRT certification is an asset
  • Ability to provide strong customer service

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned abatement work involving hazards such as asbestos, lead, or silica, including following site specific safety plans, using required PPE, setting up work areas or containment as directed, and completing detailed clean up and disposal steps
  • Complete controlled demolition related to property damage including drywall cuts and selective removal of affected materials
  • Perform small abatements in kitchens and bathrooms, including safe removal of limited affected materials, containment setup when required, and detailed clean up
  • Protect customer spaces by setting up dust control, floor protection, and clean work zones
  • Support flood and emergency tasks such as water extraction, content manipulation, initial drywall cuts, psychrometry as trained, and taking photos throughout the job life cycle
  • Set up, move, and monitor drying equipment such as air movers and dehumidifiers as directed
  • Participate in repair work, including taping and mudding, sanding, texturing, caulking, minor plaster repairs, and basic finish repair
  • Support carpentry and construction tasks as needed, including installing baseboards, vapour barriers, drywall board ups, and general jobsite prep for repairs
  • Perform painting related tasks such as surface preparation, priming, sealing, staining, and painting on interior and exterior surfaces as assigned
  • Use tools and equipment properly and report issues or safety concerns right away
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area including proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment in your vehicle and on site
  • Communicate clearly with project managers and customers using phone, text, and email updates as needed
  • Complete paperwork and job tasks using company apps such as Restorify and Encircle
  • Participate in the emergency on call rotation and respond to new losses when scheduled
  • Complete daily timecards and required work related documents
  • Travel to other locations in the East Kootenay’s occasionally as needed
