About The Position

The ABA Paraprofessional at Spero Academy plays a crucial role in providing individualized support to elementary students with autism and other disabilities. This position focuses on implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) strategies to assist students in achieving their educational, social, and emotional goals. The paraprofessional will work closely with classroom teachers and the behavior team to create a nurturing and stable learning environment, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Completion of 40 hours of training for Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
  • Maintain RBT certification with the Behavior Analysts Certification Board.
  • Experience working with students with special education needs.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain a status of 'not disqualified' upon completion of criminal background studies.
  • Must earn PCA Certification within the first two weeks of employment.
  • Must earn CPI Certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct 1:1 support using established ABA behavioral interventions.
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and the behavior team to implement strategies for student success.
  • Collect appropriate data to track student progress.
  • Assist in documentation required by the Minnesota Department of Education.
  • Model personal characteristics such as respect, honesty, responsibility, empathy, manners, and trust.
  • Create a warm, caring, nurturing, and stable learning environment.
  • Participate actively in scheduled team meetings.
  • Attend all paid professional development days for paraprofessionals and staff.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with students and staff.
  • Define clear expectations for students as advised by the classroom teacher and special education staff.
  • Maintain personal accountability for actions.
  • Obtain skills to be a Special Education Paraprofessional through training and personal goal setting.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and handle quick changes.
  • Exhibit problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Learn to assist students with communication devices and other assistive technologies.
  • Submit PCA hours in a timely manner.
  • Use Mac iOS computers effectively.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on occasion or move quickly to contain a student.
