About The Position

At Myers Assessment and Therapeutic Services (MATS), we are dedicated to improving lives through high-quality, evidence-based ABA therapy. We’re seeking an experienced ABA Billing Specialist to join our growing team. Under general supervision, the Billing Specialist performs a variety of billing and reimbursement duties with accuracy, discretion, and professionalism. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about supporting a mission-driven behavioral health organization. Position Summary: The ABA Billing Specialist ensures the accurate and timely billing of ABA therapy services, including insurance claim management, eligibility verification, authorization tracking, payment posting, and resolution of billing discrepancies. This role collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to maximize reimbursement while ensuring compliance with payer and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of ABA billing, coding, and insurance procedures.
  • Familiarity with payer billing and claims resolution (commercial and Medicaid).
  • Understanding CPT codes related to ABA services (97151, 97153, 97155, 97156, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience using CentralReach (required).
  • Passion for revenue cycle management and a positive, team-oriented mindset.
  • Certificate in Billing and Coding required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (related field preferred).
  • Minimum 2+ years of billing and coding experience in ABA therapy or behavioral/mental health settings.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit electronic and paper insurance claims for ABA therapy services in compliance with payer timelines and requirements.
  • Verify client insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits prior to service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate authorization records, including approved units, service codes, and start/end dates.
  • Review clinical documentation to ensure billing accuracy and compliance.
  • Post payments, reconcile accounts, and follow up on outstanding or denied claims.
  • Research and resolve claim rejections and billing discrepancies promptly.
  • Communicate with insurance companies, families, and staff regarding billing inquiries.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and perform appropriate collection efforts for unpaid claims.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all payer regulations.
  • Assist with month-end billing reports and support internal audit activities.
  • Perform additional billing-related duties as assigned.
