About The Position

John W. Stone Oil Distributor, LLC is the local leader in dockside, mid-streaming, and offshore fueling along the Mississippi River, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Venice, Louisiana, and into the Gulf of Mexico. This full-time AB Tankerman position is for the Stone Explorer, an Ocean-Going Tug and Barge, with its home port in Gretna, Louisiana. The role reports directly to the Master of the vessel and operates on a 21 days on / 21 days off work schedule.

Requirements

High School Diploma (or its Equivalent).
Reliable Transportation to and from Work.
Basic Computer Skills.
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Valid (STCW and National) United States Coast Guard Medical Certificate.
Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with at least the following Endorsements (or Equivalent Certificates): Able- Seaman (Limited, Unlimited, or Special).
Tankerman Person in Charge (PIC) of Dangerous Liquids (DL).
Lifeboatman.
Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW).
Basic Training.
Basic Firefighting.
Security Awareness.

Responsibilities

Serve as Tankerman Person in Charge (PIC) of Dangerous Liquids (DL).
Perform liquid cargo transfer operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Inspect barges prior to transfer operations.
Connect and disconnect hoses.
Align and secure valves.
Check engines and pumps prior to transfer operations.
Watch hose during transfers operations.
Monitor cargo flow and mooring lines throughout the transfer operations.
Conduct soundings on liquid cargo tanks using gauge tape or gauge stick.
Operate and develop knowledge of heaters.
Complete and submit various forms of paperwork, including the Declaration of Inspection (DOI), customer tickets, checklists, and the like.
Repair flame screens.
Make couplings.
Operate winches and ratchets.
Line-handling and rigging.
Stand as lookout or ride the head of the tow as a lookout.
Perform a full range of general maintenance and housecleaning duties, including general cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, clearing litter, chipping, scraping, and painting, changing oil filters, offloading trash and used filers, restocking supplies, and the like.
Work, communicate, and interface with crewmembers, customers, office personnel, inspectors, auditors, government agencies, and other entities and people, some of which may speak a foreign language.
Perform drills.
Handle emergencies.
Conduct Job Safety Analysis’ (JSA).
Undertake action to ensure the overall safety and protection of people, property, and the environment.
Report incidents, including illnesses, injuries, property damage, and pollution.
Inspect OSV and other equipment.
Maintain cleanliness of OSV and other equipment.
Maintain tug, barges, appurtenances, and other equipment in good working order and condition.
Maintain safe, sanitary living and working conditions.
Train and assess Ordinary Seamen and Able-Bodied Seamen.
Communicate via a VHF radio.
Cook and prepare meals.
Troubleshoot problems.
Live and work in close quarters onboard a vessel in harsh weather conditions for weeks at a time.
Adhere to and comply with company policies and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations, including United States Coast Guard Regulations, the company's Safety Management System (SMS), and the vessels Certificate of Inspection (COI).
Perform routine duties as directed by vessel's Master, Mate, and Chief Engineer.
Adhere to the orders of the vessel's Master.
