About The Position

Information Technology Services at the University of Iowa is seeking two (2) A/V Installers/Programmers who will provide day-to-day configuration and support of technology in campus learning spaces and conference rooms, including third-tier end user support. Reporting directly to the IT Director of Physical Infrastructure, these roles will also perform a variety of service management functions, including the development of procedural service documentation (instructions on equipment installation and configuration, e.g.) and support documentation for end users. These positions are not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization. These positions are 100% onsite. Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a total of typically 5 years of experience configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting audiovisual equipment. This could include: o A high school diploma or GED and typically 5 years of experience. o An associate’s degree or technical diploma and typically 3 years of experience. o A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position and typically 1 year of experience
  • Professional experience (typically 1 year or more) configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting audiovisual equipment including control, audio and video systems from a variety of vendors (preferably Crestron, Extron, Biamp, etc.).
  • Experience supporting Windows personal computers and laptops in an enterprise setting
  • Basic knowledge of concepts around enterprise networks including DHCP, DNS and 802.1x authentication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other video-conferencing technologies in an audiovisual setting.
  • Experience reading/interpreting A/V schematics and system diagrams.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills (including with technical peers).
  • Physical ability to routinely move and transport audiovisual and computer equipment up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • AVIXA CTS certification highly desirable.
  • Experience terminating and troubleshooting low-voltage cables (Cat 6A, coaxial, speaker, and/or control cable.)
  • Vendor certification from Extron, Crestron, Biamp or other audiovisual equipment manufacturers.
  • Experience supporting audiovisual technology in a higher education or enterprise setting.
  • Experience with a scripting language (Python, Lua, etc.) in an audiovisual programming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently configures A/V hardware including programming control systems, audio systems, switchers, etc. Independently installs and replaces A/V hardware.
  • Performs in-depth troubleshooting and support on hardware and software/firmware issues with A/V equipment.
  • Documents service support activities (incidents and requests), creates & updates existing service and support process documentation, and maintains accurate records of A/V equipment in IT assets.
  • Provides input on A/V technology in classrooms and other departmental meeting spaces.
  • Coordinates support with vendors as needed and assists users regularly with escalated trouble issues.
