The Class A Lineman Underground is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work. The position requires the ability to lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman and involves various tasks such as stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. Additionally, the Lineman is responsible for troubleshooting issues in primary and secondary systems, replacing cutout fuses, and clearing faulted circuits and systems. The role frequently involves working with energized high voltage systems, necessitating skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. The Lineman must maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order and perform all other related work as required to complete the job. The position demands the ability to perform rigorous physical labor, identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit, and be familiar with induced voltage and grounding procedures. The Lineman must also be capable of working at heights and/or in confined spaces, properly installing and removing PPE and cover up, and climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) while possessing the necessary tools. Understanding how to phase out a line using phasing sticks, planning safe work based on a job print or work order, obtaining a one shot on a recloser, conducting pre-job or tailgate briefings, and safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers are also essential functions of this role.
