About The Position

The Crisis Specialist at MHAI will provide telephonic emotional support and resources to individuals in crisis through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. This role focuses on de-escalating crises, providing timely access to mental health services, and ensuring the confidentiality and professionalism of interactions. The position requires working remotely while managing documentation and communication with colleagues, all aimed at supporting individuals during critical moments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Bachelor's degree in psychology, human service, or related field (preferred).
• Two years of experience in delivering crisis response/stabilization (preferred).
• Ability to navigate computers and web-based technology, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom (required).
• Practical crisis intervention skills and problem-solving techniques.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of crisis de-escalation and suicide intervention strategies (preferred).
• Experience with social service agencies and mental health resources (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide strengths-based, unbiased emotional support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• De-escalate crises and relieve immediate distress for callers.
• Initiate and respond to emergency service departments as needed.
• Promote timely access to appropriate mental health services.
• Resolve at least 80% of calls without further intervention.
• Maintain web-based case notes summarizing individual needs and assistance provided.
• Ensure professionalism in the workspace and communication platforms.
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
