About The Position

911 Dispatcher No experience is necessary. Experienced dispatchers encouraged to apply with credit given for previous experience. Department: 911 Dispatch Schedule: Full time 12 hour rotating shifts; 28 days per rotation with 14 days off. Must work set rotating day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays Deadline: Applications will be accepted on-going until positions are filled. NATURE OF WORK Directly reports to Lead Dispatcher. Under general supervision, receives and prioritizes E911 and non-emergency telephone calls from the public. Processes information using a computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system. Dispatches the appropriate emergency service agencies such as police, fire, and emergency medical units. Monitors public safety units in the field. Retrieves and enters computer data for emergency response personnel within the service area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • completion of Communications basic training
  • annual continuing education and maintain certifications.
  • Must possess current Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) certifications, as well as CPR certification.
  • Must also hold Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) certification or obtain all required certifications within one (1) year of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Answers calls for emergencies from the public or first responders (telephone or radio) in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Performs a thorough interrogation of calls, extracts vital information necessary and proper to ascertain the nature and location of the emergency.
  • Determines the proper apparatus and personnel required to service the emergency.
  • Transmits and receives messages on the radio using the proper and approved terminology.
  • Records correct and proper times of all personnel and apparatus activities relevant to an emergency.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of the street/location systems as well as call categories and to further has the ability to select the proper street/location and call categories for a given situation quickly and correctly.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and complete understanding of all procedures, both permanent and temporary, as they apply to the activities of the Dispatch Center and the Participating Agencies.
  • Performs other assigned work as directed by Shift Supervisors and/or Lead Dispatcher.
  • Maintains knowledge of the operation of all equipment used in the Dispatch Center and independently operates such equipment.
  • Abides by and adheres to all rules and regulations, policies and procedures of the Dispatch Center and the Participating Agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
