About The Position

The 911 Dispatcher is responsible for managing emergency communications by operating a multi-channel radio console and multi-line telephone system. This role involves dispatching fire, law enforcement, and medical emergencies to appropriate agencies while maintaining accurate records and ensuring public safety in a high-pressure environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current Wisconsin Driver's License.
  • At least one year of experience with high intensity radio and/or multi-line phone systems.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including a drug test.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work on holidays and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in Police/Fire Emergency Medical Services (EMS) dispatching and radio communications.
  • Experience in receiving and resolving complaints or substantial responsibility for giving information.
  • Experience in emergency service dispatching and radio communication.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently operate the 911 emergency answering phone system and answer all incoming emergency and administrative calls.
  • Create and maintain generated incidents in Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) for all incoming calls.
  • Perform all call notifications, maintain highway log, and monitor entrance points and alarm systems.
  • Operate the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and radio system to provide prompt dispatching of MCSO freeway squads.
  • Query TIME system for warrants and send notifications about these warrants to other County departments and agencies.
  • Input, update, request, transmit, and query information from various sources to maintain accurate records.
  • Disseminate information on vehicle, driver license, criminal history, and other articles via local, state, and national computer networks.
  • Monitor TTY's, forward to proper authorities, and maintain accurate outgoing TTY log.
  • Monitor all DOT traffic cameras and assist law enforcement agencies by reporting site pictures for information dissemination.
  • Ensure that 90% of all incoming calls are answered within 10 seconds and priority 1 incidents are dispatched within 90 seconds.
  • Login to all programs daily and send weekly Everbridge test messages.
  • Monitor duress alarms for County buildings and dispatch law enforcement to alarms as necessary.
  • Disseminate emergency notification messages via Everbridge and make emergency notifications to appropriate Command Staff.
  • Receive NAWAS, state, and federal defense calls and relay information to appropriate agencies.
