About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Propulsion Systems Senior Manager (Level L) to lead the Propulsion Systems Operation for the 787-airplane program located in North Charleston, SC. The primary focus of this role is to directly enable production and timely deliveries of 787 airplanes by managing change, support rate increases, ensuring engineering quality, and creating measurable customer value. This leader will build and grow a high-performing, production-focused engineering team that delivers predictable, compliant, and cost-effective propulsion systems solutions supporting airplane production, deliveries, fleet safety, certification, and product enhancements. The role requires deep technical expertise in aircraft propulsion systems, proven program leadership, and the ability to implement standard work and robust processes that drive throughput, reduce defects, and accelerate delivery cadence. The Senior Manager will be accountable for engineering quality, schedule and cost performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across design, sustainment, and in-service support activities to maximize airplane availability and customer value. A successful candidate will meet all or most of the following: Direct experience with commercial transport airplane propulsion system design, certification, or in-service support Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional technical programs from concept through certification and entry into service Familiarity with certification processes and regulatory requirements (FAA, EASA, etc.) Demonstrated success establishing processes, standard work, and engineering governance in a product development or sustainment environment Strong customer focus, with the ability to translate customer needs into practical engineering solutions and value Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills at technical and executive levels Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing teams and building a positive culture of accountability and innovation

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, mentor and retain a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on 787 propulsion systems that is oriented to production support and delivery enablement
  • Prioritize and align team objectives to directly enable production schedules and delivery commitments; remove impediments to aircraft flow and accelerate time-to-delivery
  • Define and implement standard work, engineering processes, and operating rhythms (e.g., lean improvements, design reviews, risk management, process control) that maximize predictability, first-pass yield, and on-time deliverables
  • Be accountable for technical integrity, certification readiness, and compliance with FAA, EASA and other applicable regulatory requirements for propulsion systems changes and configurations that affect production and delivery milestones
  • Interface directly and frequently with airplane program leadership, propulsion suppliers, OEM systems teams, safety engineering, flight test, certification, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer support to resolve production-critical technical issues and enable deliveries
  • Drive engineering solutions that balance safety, reliability, producibility, maintainability, and lifecycle cost with an emphasis on manufacturability and delivery rate.
  • Champion risk-based decisions that accelerate delivery without compromising safety or compliance
  • Oversee production support activities that directly impact throughput, including rapid troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and timely disposition of non-conformances to minimize delivery delays
  • Ensure timely completion of certification and verification artifacts, test plans, analysis, and evidence packages required for program milestones and regulatory approvals that gate production and deliveries
  • Establish and track measurable performance metrics tied to production and customer outcomes (e.g., engineering defect rates, first-pass yield, time-to-resolution, time-to-certification, delivery rate, safety/event trends) and use data to drive continuous improvement
  • Champion a culture of ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-focused value creation that empowers the team to remove delivery barriers and improve customer outcomes
  • Manage budget, staffing, and resource allocation to meet production and delivery commitments and strategic objectives; optimize resourcing to increase productivity of the engineering organization
  • Represent the organization externally with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and customers as needed to resolve performance, compliance, or safety issues and demonstrate commitment to quality and meeting customer commitments
