About The Position

An Operator C truck driver at San Juan mine typically operates heavy haul trucks to transport materials such as overburden, topsoil, waste rock, or dust suppression water within the mine site. Their responsibilities generally include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Driving Large Haul Trucks - Operating heavy-duty trucks (e.g., Caterpillar 785C, Caterpillar 777F Water Truck, Komatsu HM400) to move materials across the mine.
• Following Safety Protocols - Adhering to Westmoreland policies and MSHA regulations to prevent accidents. This includes having the responsibility to stop work if necessary to correct safety hazards during any task.
• Equipment Inspections - Conducting pre- and post-shift checks on trucks to ensure they are in good working order.
• Hauling and Dumping Loads - Transporting materials to designated locations such as stockpiles or dumps.
• Communicating with 2-way and CB radios - Using radios to communicate with peers, receive assignments, and report issues.
• Working in Mine Conditions - Operating in extreme weather, rough terrain, and dusty environments.
• Dust Control - Applying water in a proper manner to reduce dust on haul roads, dump areas, and loading areas while not creating slipping hazards for other wheeled equipment operators.
• Assisting with Grading & Reshaping - Operating trucks to support excavation, grading, and land contouring for proper drainage and vegetation growth.
• Following Environmental Regulations - Adhering to guidelines in the mine permits and set by environmental agencies (e.g., EPA, state mining authorities) to ensure the mine meets obligations and regulations.
• Monitoring Equipment Conditions - Conducting safety and maintenance checks to prevent spills or leaks from haul trucks.
• Working as part of a haulage crew - Requires working with other operators loading material into the trucks, grading roads being used by the trucks, and working together to make the task safe and productive.
