About The Position

Town School for Boys seeks a full-time 7th and 8th grade math teacher to join the dynamic upper school math department. This faculty member will be responsible for providing math instruction for 7th and 8th grade and will also serve as an advisor and grade-level team member for the 2026-27 academic school year. The curriculum (Pre-Algebra/Algebra) is designed to develop deep conceptual understanding, number sense, and strong problem-solving skills. Real-life application of mathematics is supported through problem-solving and project-based learning. Candidates should be experienced in supplementing the curriculum with rich tasks and homework that enhances the classroom experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of teaching experience, excellent classroom management, and a deep respect for boys' intellectual and social, emotional development. A teaching credential or master’s degree is preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing innovative approaches to learning
  • Experience with project-based learning and inquiry-based instruction
  • The role requires the use of formative assessment to provide high-quality feedback and to inform instructional decisions
  • Candidates should be robust in their use of technology tools for teaching
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience
  • Experience working with middle school students

Nice To Haves

  • A teaching credential or Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with curricular design principles such as Understanding by Design (UbD) and differentiation, as well as familiarity with Developmental Designs or a similar approach to advisory and classroom culture development, is highly valued.
  • Willingness to engage in intercultural competency development as part of Town’s ongoing work in building belonging.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with grade-level team members, the Dean of Students, the Dean of Character and Culture, the Director of Teaching, Learning and Innovation, and the Head of Upper School.
  • Integrating different technology tools to enhance instruction.
  • Collaboration with other departments, librarians, and educational technologists is expected.
  • Instructional approaches and course content are differentiated to suit a range of learning styles and reflect a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Lead morning advisory, support students during study hall, supervise during snack/recess, and facilitate student-led parent conferences in the fall and spring.
  • Communicate regularly with other team members and parents about student progress.
  • Recess and lunch supervision, and grade-level and faculty meetings.
  • Committee work, chaperoning outdoor education/field trips, and attending student performances and athletic events.
