About the position

The classroom teacher is the person who has the primary responsibility for teaching his/her assigned students. The teacher will perform as an instructional specialist in an assigned teaching position, working collaboratively with other staff members to plan, carry out, and evaluate instructional activities for groups and individual students in assigned classes and subject areas. The teacher will provide a learning environment that respects individual differences and the dignity of each student. Additionally, the teacher will foster innovation and expertise in providing a school-wide program of educational excellence and actively participate in extracurricular activities such as advising, sponsoring, coaching, or spectating.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prescribe, and select materials to meet the instructional needs of assigned students.
  • Establish standards of student performance that can be quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated.
  • Assist District and site-level specialists in identifying, assessing, and resolving special student problems.
  • Administer group tests in accordance with District or school testing programs and utilize results for identifying student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding individual student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, achievement, attendance, and prepare required forms and reports.
  • Use a variety of techniques and methods to promote positive student achievement.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans consistent with state framework and District policy.
  • Acquire knowledge and develop strategies essential for effective teaching and maintain professional competence through growth opportunities.
  • Develop/use course outlines and long-range lesson plans that incorporate goals and performance level objectives.
  • Maintain a behavioral climate conducive to student learning and demonstrate firmness, fairness, and empathy.
  • Interpret and apply California Education Code, Board policies, District regulations, and school procedures in the classroom and on school grounds.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of teacher aides, assistants, and volunteers.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of students in the classroom and during school activities.
  • Attend required meetings called by administrators or department chairpersons.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in the assigned grade and/or subject area(s).
