About The Position

North Wasco County School District is seeking qualified applicants for a 6-12 Grade Science Teacher for the 26'-27' school year. This hybrid position involves teaching both virtually and in-person from the Wahtonka Campus. The District is committed to educating each student to the highest standards, motivating them to reach their fullest potential, and graduating them to be college, career, and life-ready. The Dalles, located 84 miles east of Portland, offers a 'Gorge Lifestyle' with abundant outdoor activities and a rich history. The area boasts a quaint, historic small-town feel with a population of over 13,000, low annual rainfall, and a thriving agricultural and business community. The primary purpose of this role is to develop students’ academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or higher degree with a major in one or more of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Content Area (Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Economics, Geography, Biology, Physics, Reading, Early Childhood Education, or similar)
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon
  • Willingness to teach any qualified subject area (Must meet Highly Qualified Requirements) with endorsed areas of assignment
  • Skills to motivate students
  • Skills to communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Skills to direct support personnel
  • Skills to evaluate performance
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods
  • Knowledge of state curriculum framework
  • Knowledge of education code
  • Knowledge of appropriate instructional subjects
  • Satisfactory results of drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed.
  • Satisfactory results of criminal history verification - a background check for any convictions directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
