About The Position

The 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher is an experienced, passionate, and creative educator who inspires and engages students in dynamic science and math programs. This teacher delivers instruction with appropriate academic depth while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine excitement for learning. The role includes leading an integrated, inquiry-based, hands-on math and science program designed to meet the developmental and academic needs of 5th-grade students. The teacher collaborates closely with grade-level colleagues to design and implement a cohesive, engaging, and effective curriculum. Teachers at MP&MS are collaborative professionals who contribute actively to subject-area and grade-level teams. They share responsibility for cultivating a strong sense of community and for developing an integrated curriculum that reflects the diverse skills, passions, and talents of both specialist and core academic teachers. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required (in math, science, or related area preferred)
  • Five years of teaching experience at the upper elementary or middle school level preferred and/or a teaching credential in math or science
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Solid classroom management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including patience, discretion and good judgment

Responsibilities

  • Teach one section each of fifth-grade science and math to a class of 16-20 students, collaborating with grade-level colleagues and teachers across adjacent grades to strengthen curriculum and deepen student learning and engagement.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students while fostering a collaborative environment that builds both autonomy and community.
  • Differentiate curriculum and instruction to meet diverse learning styles, experiences, and abilities.
  • Cultivate strong relationships so every student feels known, supported, challenged, and respected in their emerging identity.
  • Systematically assess, evaluate, and document student progress.
  • Prepare report cards, including narrative comments, and contribute to grade-level and student support teams.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through written updates, conferences, and meetings about the program and student progress.
  • Create opportunities for students to engage responsibly with their communities and the wider world.
  • Engage fully in school life, including supervision duties, assemblies, field trips, performances, and school-wide events.
  • Participate actively in all faculty meetings and collaborate with colleagues to advance the school's program.
  • Treat every member of the community with respect, model ethical behavior, and encourage appreciation for differences.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and development.
