About the position

The Department of Sociology at Southern Methodist University is seeking a lecturer to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses including Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, and upper-division courses in their areas of expertise. The teaching load is typically four courses per semester, and applications are particularly encouraged from those who can contribute courses in race, community, crime, or nonprofits.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a combination of Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, and upper-division substantive courses.
  • Negotiate course offerings with the Department Chair based on expertise.
  • Contribute to the academic community by supporting interdisciplinary programs and initiatives.
  • Engage with students and faculty in a collegial environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in sociology or related disciplines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching courses related to race, community, crime, or nonprofits.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary programs and collaboration.
