About The Position

Foothill Country Day School is seeking an energetic, creative, and resourceful 4th Grade Teacher for its Lower School. The teacher has a primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining a teaching and learning environment that reflects Foothill’s Mission and Core Values. The teacher has primary responsibility for the planning and instruction of the core subject areas of math and social studies. Successful candidates will have teaching experience in the primary or elementary grades, experience teaching mathematics that reflects the Singapore philosophy, and the demonstrated ability—through observation and references—to teach to the highest level of all students in a school that values teaching to the whole child.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience teaching Singapore-style mathematics
  • Knowledge of Responsive Classroom and implementing Responsive Classroom practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning
  • Understanding of Foothill’s Mission and Core Values
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • A congenial affect and a collaborative, team-oriented working style
  • A desire to work with children and embrace their differences in learning and temperament and meet their individual needs
  • Familiarity with authentic assessment practices and current technology
  • Physical presence is an essential function of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Postgraduate degree is preferred but not required
  • Experience with Schoology and PowerSchool

Responsibilities

  • Establish high academic and behavior expectations and a supportive, predictable learning climate that provides opportunities for students to learn to be accountable
  • Form trusting and supportive relationships with students and partnerships with parents
  • Gauge the instructional curriculum so that it is developmentally appropriate and meets the needs of each learner
  • Work collaboratively with partner 4th Grade lead teacher to develop an experience that accounts for individual teacher strengths and differences
  • Use whole class, small group and individual instructional techniques
  • Observe, evaluate, encourage, and monitor students’ academic and social development and progress
  • Create a Responsive Classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the academic, social, and emotional development of students
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the School’s mathematics curriculum that is based on the Singapore philosophy
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the School’s social studies curriculum
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding students’ progress
  • Be in classroom prior to arrival of students in the morning and remain in the afternoon until all students have been dismissed
  • Participate in duties outside of the classroom, as assigned, to support student safety on campus
  • Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
  • Conduct parent conferences
