The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Chicago. In this role, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to students, serving as both a role model and a communicator of the Church's message through various tasks and responsibilities. The Teacher is considered a ministerial employee due to their dual role as a Church representative and a conveyer of the Church's message to children. The Teacher is hired by and directly accountable to the principal. They are expected to adhere to the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools, as well as the local school's policies. The Teacher collaborates with the principal and staff to foster an educational environment that supports the ministry of Catholic education. This role involves representing the Archbishop of Chicago in effectuating his ministry of Catholic education and the religious teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church at the local school level. St. Leonard School, located in historic Berwyn, is described as a close-knit, growing community just west of Chicago. The school's philosophy centers on recognizing each child's unique needs and cultivating a lifelong love of learning, grounded in faith, values, and behaviors that reflect a commitment to follow Jesus and demonstrate the fruit of the Holy Spirit's presence. The school aims to teach the whole child by providing strong academics, developing strong character, and fostering unshakable faith. To achieve this, teachers engage in Professional Learning Communities for continuous professional growth and collaborate to create a supportive environment for families.
