About The Position

Lakeside High School has seen an incredible rise in student participation in boys basketball, creating a growing program filled with athletes who are eager to learn, compete, and improve. To support this momentum, we are adding another coach to ensure every student receives the instruction and encouragement they deserve. This role is essential in providing quality coaching to developing players, supporting opportunities for growth and strengthening the entire program through intentional teaching and mentorship. It also plays a key part in fostering a positive culture built on sportsmanship, effort, teamwork, and connection. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who believes in developing athletes at every level, values strong fundamentals, and is passionate about helping young people grow both on and off the court.

Requirements

  • First Aid/CPR Card
  • WSP/FBI Fingerprint Clearance
  • Ability to obtain required WIAA clock hours
  • Be a High School Graduate or have completed a graduation equivalency diploma (GED) program.
  • Successful experience in coaching basketball at the secondary, collegiate, or club level.
  • Knowledge of effective and safe basketball techniques.
  • Great sportsmanship, positive relationships, and effective communication with students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach and broader coaching staff in all aspects of the Boys Basketball program
  • Provide skill instruction, game preparation, and player development
  • Teach foundational skills, individual techniques, and team concepts appropriate for developing athletes
  • Provide constructive feedback that supports growth, confidence, and understanding of the game
  • Uphold team rules, district expectations, and all WIAA standards
  • Explain eligibility requirements and participation expectations to athletes
  • Maintain safety, supervision, and appropriate professional boundaries at all times
  • Assist with equipment organization, inventory, facility set up, and related tasks as assigned
  • Model and promote exceptional sportsmanship and positive conduct
  • Encourage teamwork, resilience, school pride, and a growth mindset
  • Build relationships with athletes, families, and staff while supporting a welcoming program culture
  • Contribute to a coaching environment where every athlete feels valued and supported
